EHU 200 underground excavator – Conversion of a CAT M314F
The 19.5-ton CAT M314F was converted by ECHLE into a specially designed EHU 200 for underground mining. Low ceiling heights, poor lighting conditions and working conditions made more difficult by dust were some of the problems that had to be solved.
ECHLE has equipped the excavator with a special ROPS and FOPS cab for mining and certified it directly on the company’s own test site. Thanks to the low superstructure, the overall height of the machine is less than 2.7 meters. Side and rear stabilizers were fitted and a new boom for mining with Z-kinematics was designed and installed.
A dust binding system with a 340-liter stainless steel water tank was also installed. In order to withstand the additional loads underground, reinforcements were made to the chassis, A-frame, boom and counterweight. The engine mounts were enlarged and the mounts stiffened.
To ensure safe operation, the driver now has additional LED work lights around the machine. The lifting cylinders have an adjustable switch-off device so that they can be adapted to different ceiling heights. The finished machine has a central lubrication system, an external cabin filter and a fire extinguishing unit.
